Have you ever made a grudge purchase? Ever bought anything you didn’t really want to buy, but you felt that you had to? Remember the emotions that you felt, remember the disgust that you probably felt. Have you ever bought anything and then afterwards you regretted having bought it?

Now for those of you who do not know, God has bought us – with a great price. He has paid for us with the blood of His only Son.

Galatians 1:4 “In order to set us free from this present evil age, Christ gave himself for our sins, in obedience to the will of our God and Father.” GNB

So God wanted to save us and He paid the price to redeem us from sin & death.

Romans 6:23 “For sin pays its wage—death; but God’s free gift is eternal life in union with Christ Jesus our Lord.” GNB

So God wanted to set us free and He paid the price for our sins, but now we need to ask ourselves, was it a grudge purchase? Did God feel that He had to buy us back, but He did not really want to?

John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life”. GNB

That He gave – a free and unmerited gift. The motivation here is love. Because God so loved the world.

Hebrews 12:2 “looking to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right of the throne of God.” MKJV

The joy before Him was that He fulfilled the will of God in paying the price for our sins and redeeming us (buying us back) so that we could have a relationship with God.

Now that God has paid the ultimate price for us, how does He feel about providing for us now?

Romans 8:31-32 “In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 “Certainly not God, who did not even keep back his own Son, but offered him for us all! He gave us his Son—will he not also freely give us all things?” GNB

And in closing, Jesus reveals Himself as the Good Shepherd:

John 10:11 I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. MKJV

The ultimate price has been paid for you and me, and it was paid in love! This should make us excited! God loved us so much that He could not abandon mankind when they sinned and turned their backs on Him in the Garden of Eden – God has bought us with the highest price. Know today that He loves you and wants you to know and experience that love.
